James Cates drives the Limited Modified Class car.  His home track is 105 Speedway but he can also be found racing at Houston Raceway Park and Texana Raceway Park.  He lives in Houston, TX.

Team members helping James are:  Crew - Troy Kettler, Terry Klock; Help - Howard Willis, Earl Baxter, Kent Lewis Sr, Kent Lewis Jr., Rodney Owens, 105 Machine Shop, Kings Paint & Body Shop.

James started racing in 1988 in the Stock Car Class at Battleground Speedway because it's a family hobby.  His first win was in '89 in the Modified Stock Car Class at Big H Speedway.  Career highlights include finishing 2nd in the Points 3 years in a row at Battleground Speedway, first win with all the fast guys still running.

The thrill of racing for James is controlling something that is out of control.  He's most proud of the ability to miss wrecks...not spinning out much and racing people clean.

James's racing heroes are his Dad, Dale Earnhardt, Larry Schild.
