Jimmy Burns drives the #1B ASCS Series
Sprint Class car. His home track is Lowes Motor Speedway. He
lives in Salisbury, NC.
Team members helping Jimmy are:
Mom, Dad, Michael -brother, Mara - wife.
Jimmy started racing in 1983 in the
Karts Class at Shellhammers Speedway.
The learning curve was steep for
the new driver and crew, but they learned quickly and by 1995 and 1996
he became the "driver to beat" and earned the nickname "The Jet." In
just those two seasons, alone, he accumulated over 100 wins and eight
championships. Career highlights include moving up to Sprints.
In the fall of '98, he received a call to substitute for an injured
driver. He gratefully accepted and gained his first taste of a
410-sprint car. It was an awesome opportunity that Jimmy capitalized on
by driving the car to some very impressive finishes. The most memorable
day was a drive to the front from 22nd starting position on a slick
Hagerstown surface where many said one couldn't pass. The team
competed in the ARCA events at Pocono in both 1999 and 2000, proving
Jimmy's wealth of experience as a driving-school instructor at the
challenging 2.5-mile layout. In 2000 Jimmy joined the New England based
Pro Tour Truck series. The season finale at the Limerock road
course event, where he finished a very strong 2nd, was the highlight to
an excellent year. In 2001 Jimmy competed in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup
Series, finishing 10th in overall points in the 2002 season and
finishing 3rd at Indianapolis Raceway Park. In 2006 Jimmy returned
to ASCS 360 Sprint Car competition. Jimmy
completed the season with a strong fourth place finish in the World
Short Track Championships, held at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor
Speedway.
He's most proud of racing in the Hooters
Pro Cup.
Jimmy's racing hero is his Dad.
