Craig Thatcher
Interview by CJ
Craig
is 37 years old and comes from Knapp, Wisconsin.
He runs the #91 modified with a Specialty Fabricating Chassis and has a 355
Chevy Motor.
He told me that he started racing street stock in 1987 at the age of 20.
He told me that he had actually started out in demolition derby's. Told me
he put a lot of time and hard work into it for only about fifteen minutes
of fun...
He said his Uncle John Shotts told him he should be putting his time into
a modified --------- thank you Uncle John... You brought us a really good
addition to the racing world...
He told me that no one in particular had influenced him along the way but
said there was a lot of very good competitors out there...
If you want to see him race you can usually find him at Cedar Lake
Speedway.
When asked what he thought it took to be a good driver he told me being
consistent was very important....He told me that one of his toughest
competitors was Kent Arment. Although they do not compete against one
another that much they are competitive off the track with National
Points...
He told me that his long term goal is to stay consistent...
Most memorable event to date was the Wissota 100 two and a half years
ago... He also has had a couple of wins in the USMTS in Wisconsin and is a
3 time Wissota Champ..
I asked him if there was anything in racing he would change if he could...
He told me that he felt there should be a tire rule.. He said that the way
it is now there is too much guessing involved and that you have to carry
so many tires with you just to stay in the competition.... makes it very
expensive.... Said if it was controlled it would help make it more
competitive and would help out expense wise.
He has no crew chief...he does his work himself..
He wanted to give a big thanks to Tri State Engines Supply and Specialty
Fabricating Race Cars...
Craig... thank you so much for giving me some of your time... I really
enjoyed watching you race and was very glad to have got to meet you...
Looking forward to seeing you race again...
Thank you
