UMP SUMMER NATIONALS

Jimmy Owens pulled into the Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway and immediately took over the role as the new sherriff in town on Friday night. After Shannon Babb had dominated the recent Summer National events, winning the previous four consecutive events contested, Owens would assume the role of spoiler and put a stop to Babb's domination, and etch his name into the record books with his first ever UMP Summer Nationals win.

Owens would take his mount from the pole position and jump to the lead at the drop of the green and never look back, leading the entire 40 laps on a track surface that put passing at a premium. Terry English would challenge Owens in the early laps but had to settle for a second place finish as he follwed Owens at the stripe with the remaining cars in tow in a single file line. Steve Hillard, Shannon Babb, Brian Birkhofer, Darren Miller, Kevin Cole, Don O'Neal, Rodney Melvin and Brian Shirley rounded out the top 10 at the checkers.

Owens started the evening off by touring the facility with a lap of 14.322 to set fast time among the 36 cars on hand for the $10,000.00 to win event.

The dash was won by local fan favorite Terry English as he took the win over Owens, Steve Hillard, Shannon Babb, Kevin Cole, Brian Birkhofer, Randy Korte, Rodney Melvin and Randy Sellars.

The heats were won by Darren Miller over Greg Johnson, Joe Morris, Michael England, Brad Neat, Dennis Erb, Phil Walker, Kerry Hansen and Randy Korte, Rodney Melvin over Duke Whiseant, Brian Shirley, Jeep Van Wormer, Tait Davenport, Bill Millikan, Jeff Glisson, James Burrell, Lee Thomasson and Jimmy Mars and Don O'Neal over Randy Sellars, Mike Jewell, Michael Steele, Billy Faust, Tim Brown, Rod Reed, Mark Voigt and Jordan Bland.

Consi races were topped by Billy Faust over Jimmy Mars, Brad Neat and Phil Walker and Tait Davenport over Dennis Erb, Tim Brown and Jordan Bland.
