BABB ties Summer Nats record with 12th win at Spoon River!

Shannon Babb who is living a dream during this years running of the UMP Summer Nationals tied the all time wins in a season mark formerly held by teammate Billy Moyer, long known throughout the Midwest as Mr. Summer Nationals! With Babb's visit to victory lane at the Spoon River Speedway among the 45 cars on hand, he is now just 1 win away from setting an all time win record to be held solely.
Babb led every lap of the 40 lap A-Main finale jumping to the point on the green and never looking back despite charges from Brian Shirley in the opening laps and later by Rodney Melvin. On an unusually rough track surface and conditions, Babb built a sizeable lead in the waning laps of the event, and with only 12 cars running at the checkers, Babb lapped up to 8th place. Following babb at the stripe were Melvin, Mars, Shirley, Drake, English, O'Neal, Lance, Harlan, Walden, Smith and Heckenast, Jr.
Babb was once again behind the wheel of his favorite car that bears the moniker of "Full Pull" and sports a Jay Dickens Engine with sponsorship from CAR CITY, G&C Enterprises, PRC, Watters Autoland, J&J Steel, KARL Chevrolet, Outlawd Motorsports, Platinum Motors & RV, ALLSTAR Performance, Sunoco Race Fuels, Triple B Outfitters, Outlawd Motorsports, Mike Mudd Tractor and Combine Repair, Wick Racing, Hoosier by Smash, Indy Screen Print, Petersen Systems, Weld Wheels, IMPACT Safety Equipment, Dyers Rods, Bert Transmission, Sweet Manufacturing, Chubby's Meals on Wheels and Petroff Towing.
Babb began the evening recording the fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 13.395, some 6/10ths better than the next qualifier.
Babb would also win the dashover Brian Shirley, Dennis Erb, Billy Drake, Rodney Melvin, Wes Steidinger, Brad Denney, Craig Richards and Kevin Weaver who suffered severe damage in the dash after making contact with the retaining wall coming off of turn four, and ending his night prematurely.
The heat races were won by Jimmy Mars over Tim Lance, Shane Allen, Jordan Bland, Brian Allen, Russ Schoonover, Brad Denney, Jeep Van Wormer, Bobby Allen and Jason Feger who was unable to start the heat after he got his mount upside down in qualifying and scratched for the remainder of the night.
Additional heat races were won by Terry English over Joe Harlan, Donnie Walden, Ed Dixon, Greg Longfellow, Brent Nelson and John Provenzano, Darren Miller over Don O'Neal driving Duke Whiseants car, Frank Heckenast, Jr., Craig Richards, Ed Barth, Jerry Reeder and Russ Adams and Michael England over Eric SMith, Ray Guss, Johnny Johnson, Jeff Laue, Ron Bartels, Dawn Mennell and Ron Wilson.
The consi was topped by Ed Dixon over Johnny Johnson to send those two to the 40 lap A-Main event.
Jeep Van Wormer was added to the main as the UMP Summer Nationals provisional.
