'Advance Auto Parts Media Day' Opens Super DIRT Week '07

Media, sponsors, officials and drivers officially kicked off Super DIRT Week XXXVI festivities on Thursday with the annual Advance Auto Parts Media Day press conference at the New York State Fairgrounds’ Infield Conference Center.


“The support of our corporate partners, the teams, the media and especially our fans makes Super DIRT Week possible,” said Tom Deery, World Racing Group president. "Our fans are passionate about this incredible event and that’s why so many of these wonderful companies want to be involved. We’re excited to have Advance Auto Parts and Rite Aid return on such a large scale, and also very pleased to see so many other returning partners and new sponsors here at Syracuse.”


The venerable Joe Marotta presided over the event, welcoming key speakers Joe Rosato, Advance Auto Parts District Manager, Syracuse Division, and Tim Burger, Rite Aid Regional Vice-President.


Following Rosato, Virginia Motor Speedway owner Bill Sawyer revealed the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series would return to his speedway on May 1, 2008 for a $10,000-to-win event.


A highlight of the media conference followed comments from Don Radford, Motorsports Manager of ITT Industries/Goulds Pumps, the sponsor of the 358 Modified “Salute to the Troops” Championship event, when he thanked the troops serving around the world in the armed forces, recognizing Master Sergeant John Pardee and Sergeant First Class Matt Cryer from the New York Army National Guard, both of whom had recently returned from Iraq and are next headed to Afghanistan.


Bernie Companion of BNC Motorsports was recognized for his sponsorship of the BNC 25 Pro Stock championship while Todd Town of Town Mechanical Inc. was highlighted for his company’s sponsorship of the Town Mechanical 30 Sportsman Championship event.


Larry Bishop, Dig Safely New York Operations Manager, a returning sponsor to Super DIRT Week, praised the event as well as the drivers in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series. Aramark returns as the Official Uniform Provider of DIRTcar Racing and Tony Lema, Aramark general manager, highlighted all the positives Aramark brings to major events.


Other speakers included Sharon Loder of Sharon’s Toy and Tim Twoguns of Pullen’s Truck Center, and Bill Capsello of Wingfoot Commercial Tire Systems, presenting $2,500 to the Rite Aid 200 Modified pole winner.

Special recognition was also given to Matt Morgan of the New York State Fair, home to Super DIRT Week for the past 36 years as well as Sunoco Race Fuels and Hoosier Racing Tires for their support of the event.


Also in attendance were 13 of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series superstar drivers, including Frank Cozze, Billy Decker, Billy Dunn, Tim Fuller, Justin Haers, Brett Hearn, Alan Johnson, Danny Johnson, Steve Paine, Dale Planck, Matt Sheppard, Gary Tomkins and Jimmy Phelps, who went on to pace the field during afternoon time trials for the Rite Aid 200.


The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds is brought to fans across the Northeast by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Advance Auto Parts, Hoosier Racing Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels. Promotional partners include AMB i.t., F.X. Caprara Car Companies, Rite Aid Corporation and the University of Northwestern Ohio and the contingency sponsors are Bert Transmission, Bicknell Racing Products, Bilstein Shocks, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Integra Shocks, MSD Ignitions, Miller Electric Manufacturing Company, Motorsports Safety Systems, Penske Shocks and Wrisco Industries.
