 Hershel Roberts

Hershel Roberts drives the #58 Late Model Class car.  His home track is Quad City Speedway but he can also be found racing at Davenport Speedway. He lives in East Moline, IL.

Team members helping Hershel are:  Ken, Gene, Sandy, Ted, Tony, Lee, Ron.  Roberts Motorsports is the car owner.

Hershel started racing in 1967 in the Figure 8 Sportsman Class at Rock Island County Fairgrounds because he and his brother went to the race and started a hobby.  Career highlights include winning back to back Late Model Features in '06 at the age of 64, from '75 to '89 went to Late Model and was going to quit.  Drove Open Wheel Modified from '89-'98.  Then they bought a Late Model car through '02.  His son and he formed their own team Roberts Motorsports.

The thrill of racing for Hershel is the competition.  There are a lot of good drivers.  You have to have good luck, Hershel says.  His most exciting racing moment was his first race he ever won.  With 2 laps to go he got spun and put it in reverse and won.  He's most proud of being a clean driver and respect from the fans and drivers, which means a lot to Hershel.

Hershel's racing heroes are Ray Gors Sr., Ronnie Weed, Gary Webb.

Of racing, Hershel says, "Don't forget the racing fans are what makes the sport.  If you don't have fans you don't have racing!".
