Derek is from Columbus In. he drives sprint cars at his home track of Bloomington. He also races at Lawrenceburg, and Twin Cities. 

The car is a Chevy Maxim. 

Derek began racing in 1994 in 3/4 midgets every where. He switched to sprints in 1998. He started racing because "I was not smart enough to know the difference. My dad raced. I raced motor cycles till I was 18. "

He got his first win at the Burg in 1998.  When he was a rookie in 1998 he won the track championship at Bloomington. It was the 75th year of racing and he was the only rookie ever to win the track championship. in 1999 he backed it up with another Championship to show it was no fluke.

Derek said the thrill of racing for him was "Cheating death in a sprint car."  His greatest accomplishment was running 2nd to Sammy Swindell an beating Smith and Saldana in his 1st winged sprint car race.

The goal; "run 16th and Georgetown."

A.J, Briscoe and Darling, are his favorite drivers.
